App privacy policy

Last updated: 25 October 2026

This policy covers the Artemis Maps app on Android and iPhone. The app works without an account, and most of what you do in it stays on your phone.

Who we are

Artemis Maps is made in Montenegro and is responsible for the personal data described here.

Write to us at artem1ja2244@gmail.com.

Using the app without an account

Without an account we know nothing about who you are. Places you save stay on your phone. Map packs, place details and photos are downloaded from our server; like every server it sees your internet address to send them, and it keeps no access log.

Some photos load straight from Wikimedia Commons, which then sees your internet address under the Wikimedia privacy policy.

Your location

The app asks for your location only to show you on the map, measure how far a place is and guide you there. It never reads your location in the background when you are not navigating.

When you ask for a route that the phone cannot work out offline, the start and end points are sent to our server to calculate it. They are used for that answer only and not stored.

Anonymous usage counts

To learn which parts of the app help people, the app sends a few counts to our own server: app opened, place opened, navigation started, place saved, map download started or finished, premium screen seen or bought. They carry a random number that changes every day, no account and no internet address, so they cannot be joined into a profile of you. We keep them for 12 months.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the app (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). No third-party analytics or advertising tool is built into the app.

Your account

An account is optional. If you sign in with an email code, we store your email address; with Google or Apple, we receive the name and email address they share with us. With an account we store your saved places, so they reach your other devices, and whether you have premium.

The legal basis is our contract with you (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)). We keep this data until you delete your account in the app under Profile → Delete account; that removes the account, your saved places and your learning data.

Suggestions from your choices

If you turn on the learning switch in Profile, the places you open and save are used to suggest places you may like. It is off until you turn it on, never uses background tracking, and you can turn it off at any time. The data is kept for 12 months and deleted with your account. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)).

Buying premium

On our website, Paddle sells premium as our merchant of record. In the app, Apple or Google handle the payment. In both cases they process your payment details under their own privacy policies, and we only learn that your premium is active and until when.

Where your data lives and who helps us

Our database and server are in Frankfurt, Germany (Oracle Cloud). An email delivery service sends sign-in codes for us and receives only your address and the message. We never sell personal data and never share it for advertising.

Children

The app can be used by everyone, but accounts are meant for people aged 16 and over. If you believe a child gave us personal data, write to us and we delete it.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, object to the anonymous counts, withdraw your consent at any time, and complain to a data protection authority: in Montenegro, the Agency for Personal Data Protection and Free Access to Information; in the EU, the authority of your country.

Changes

If this policy changes, we update the date at the top and show the change in the app. If it matters for data you have already given us, we ask you first.
